  1. Thank you for your blog. My inlaws. Wilbert & Evelyn Trepp never talked about being part Obijbwe. Don never knew he had that heritage until after his father’s death in 1976. It was a call from the White Earth Indian reservation about Indian heritage and money allocated from Madeline Spry Trepp’s legacy that we found out about this heritage. Wibert Trepp was a mining engineer and never claimed knowing any Objibwe nor did his brothers Gordon or Merlin. Never was this a subject brought up until then 1980 or 1981. Evelyn denied knowing anything, and told Don she thought his relatives only were French and spoke French. We bought Native American Art with the money received for the settlement. We are trying thru Ancestry to find any Trepp relatives since his Grandfather, John, was obviously banished from the family. We have visited Calloway, Mn and Madeline Island since learning about Objibwe heritage. We have lived in 7 states, and Don-now 81 years of age, is a retired Mining/Petroleum Engineer. We met at the University of Minn. I lived in Roseville, Mn. We are currently living in Golden, Co, -have 4 grown children, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. The Lord has blessed us in many ways. We would like further information from you. Our email is dtrepp@earthlink.net. Don’s Sister, Arlene Black, lives in NJ is 78 years old and looks exactly like Madeline Spry Trepp from the picture you posted.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving with your family.

    • Dianna:

Thanks for the information. With your permission I’d like to share it with my mom, who has done a lot ofgenealogy research. It doesn’t surprise me that the Trepp’s native heritage was not discussed – that was common with previous generations. Was John Trepp shunned by his family because he married an Indian?
